A handloom saree is an investment in craft. With a little care, it will stay beautiful for years — even passed down across generations. Here is how to look after yours.
Washing
For the first few washes, dry clean your saree to protect the colours and weave. After that, gentle hand washing in cold water with a mild detergent is best. Never wring — press the water out gently and dry in shade, away from direct sunlight.
Storing
Fold your saree along different lines each time to avoid permanent creases. Store in a cotton or muslin cloth — never plastic, which traps moisture. Add a few neem leaves or cloves to keep it fresh and protected.
Ironing
Iron on a medium heat with a thin cloth between the iron and the fabric, especially for silk and zari work. This protects the threads and keeps the shine intact.
